Egg Production

Egg production is from 10000 birds, which at a yield of  82% comes to 8200 eggs a day, average production. In peak production is typically between 90-96%. When flock is sold due to being spent, the houses are sanitized and new flock is introduced from the rearing house.

Hydroponic vegetable production

Hydroponic vegetable production is done in greenhouses, which are placed in the open area between the layer house and rearing house.

Bio-active Fertilizer

Poultry manure is mineralized to produce biologically active plant nutrient solutions. Oxygen addition increases the microorganisms ‘metabolic activity and eliminates odours.

Pathogen pasteurization occurs from an induced thermophilic step. The loss of nutrients is minimized by maintaining acidic conditions. The bio-nutrient solutions have been trialed in greenhouse and field applications. The hydroponic operation will only need a fraction of the produced liquid fertilizer as it’s diluted to a ratio of 5:100 in water.

Spent hens

Spent hens are sold, either slaughtered and sold as 'Cornish chicken' or alive as 'hard body' chickens every 80 weeks.

Point of Lay hens

The rearing house produces point of lay hens of 16 weeks old, every 18 weeks- 2 weeks of sanitizing the rearing house and maintenance of equipment  included.

Methane production for electricity use

The liquid nutrient which is produced by aerobic digestion is suitable as a primary source of methane production through anaerobic digestion. This methane is then used to fuel a converted diesel of LPG generator for the electricity need of the Veggspo Show Farm.
